Medical Device Component Supplier Checklist for OEM Buyers

Time : 2026-05-23

Qualify a medical-device component supplier by its ability to work inside the OEM's defined quality and regulatory framework. Precision manufacturing experience can support the project, but it does not by itself establish medical certification, biocompatibility, sterilization validation or approval of the finished device.

Precision stamped components used as representative Zhengna Technology manufacturing evidence
Representative product evidence; suitability for a medical application requires project-specific material, process and validation review.

Define responsibility before discussing capability

State whether the supplier is build-to-print, contributes DFM, selects material or process, performs a validated special process, manages subcontractors, packages to a cleanliness requirement, or supplies records for the OEM's device history. Ambiguous responsibility creates gaps that no inspection report can repair later.

Control the technical package

  • part and drawing revision, CAD relationship and approved specifications;
  • material grade, condition and any restricted-substance requirements;
  • critical dimensions, interfaces, surface finish and edge condition;
  • cleanliness, handling and packaging criteria stated in measurable terms;
  • lot and material traceability required by the OEM;
  • sample, inspection and change-approval expectations;
  • records and retention period required by contract.

Do not turn medical language into unsupported claims

Claim area What to verify
Medical-grade material Exact specification, supplier evidence, processing limits and the OEM's acceptance route
Biocompatibility Who owns evaluation, which finished configuration is covered and what evidence applies
Sterilization resistance Method, cycles, material/process state and responsible validation party
Cleanliness Contaminant definition, limit, cleaning process, verification and packaging boundary
Traceability Lot linkage from incoming material through production, inspection and shipment

Match inspection to risk and access

Critical features need an agreed method, datum setup, equipment suitability, sampling or full-check decision, and reaction plan. Small pins, thin stamped features, sealing surfaces and molded interfaces present different measurement risks. Ask the supplier to explain how the method represents the drawing requirement instead of accepting a generic “100% inspection” statement.

Control changes after approval

Define which material, source, tool, program, process, site, subcontractor, inspection or packaging changes require notification or approval. Record the implementation lot and evidence needed after change. A component can remain dimensionally acceptable while a material, cleanliness or traceability requirement has changed.

Use the Zhengna Technology quality-control page as a general manufacturing reference, then define the medical project requirements separately. Submit the controlled technical package through the contact page; do not rely on unsupported medical claims from the old page.

Questions buyers ask before release

Does IATF 16949 replace ISO 13485 for medical-device work?

No. They are different management-system standards with different sector focus. Buyers should define the required certification, regulatory responsibilities and project controls explicitly.

Can a component supplier claim biocompatibility from the resin or alloy name alone?

No. Material grade, supplier evidence, processing, additives, contamination, cleaning and the finished device use all matter. The responsible party should define and verify the required evidence.

What should a medical-component RFQ identify?

Include revision-controlled drawings, material and finish, critical characteristics, cleanliness and packaging requirements, expected volume, traceability, validation responsibilities, change-notification rules, and required records.
