A Swiss turned parts supplier should be qualified against the drawing, the difficult feature relationships, the production transition, and the evidence required at release. Machine brand and nominal tolerance claims are screening inputs. They do not prove that a specific long, small-diameter, cross-drilled, threaded, thin-wall, or burr-sensitive part can be produced consistently.
Identify what makes the part difficult
Begin with the datum scheme and functional interfaces. Mark diameter-to-diameter relationships, runout, concentricity, thread engagement, sealing or bearing surfaces, cross holes, slots, undercuts, thin walls, edge conditions, surface finish, and areas where a burr can obstruct assembly. The supplier should explain how the operation sequence and inspection method preserve those relationships.

The correct depth depends on the part risk and order volume.
Ask the supplier to connect each critical characteristic to a practical measurement. A drawing callout may require a micrometer, optical system, thread gauge, surface instrument, CMM, fixture, or project-specific functional check. The method needs a datum strategy, sampling plan, measurement condition, and reaction rule; an equipment list alone is not enough.
Plan prototype-to-production transfer
A prototype may be produced with extra inspection, slower cutting conditions, selected stock, or manual deburring that will not scale. Before production approval, confirm which route, tools, fixtures, inspection frequency, washing, packaging, and subcontracted processes will be used in the released condition. Open assumptions should be written into the quotation rather than disappearing between sample and order.
